Girly Day

Girly Day

A friend of mine, Linda offered to take me somewhere for my birthday. Princess Lizzy was having a hard time being around "all these boys all the time!" I told her that maybe she could join Linda and me for our Grirly Day. She loved this idea and said she wanted to see the butterflies. Linda agreed and she treated Lizzy and I to a day at White River Gardens and the Indianapolis Zoo. We had a fabulous time and the weather was perfect. Lizzy ate up having our undivided attention.

The butterflies were very pretty and colorful. Lizzy chased
them
and tried to "hold" a few. There were indoor gardens and outdoor gardens. Of course there were not as many butterflies outdoors, but there were statues of turtles, frogs, etc. They also had the hedges planted/trimmed to look like a knot garden. There was a beautiful area that looked like an beautiful place to have a wedding.

We then went and saw the kimodo dragons. They were very large, but not as impressive as I th
ought they would be. And there were only two of them. But now we can say we saw one. On our way to the "dragons" we went through the plains. Lizzy was on a mission though and sped through this area. Then we saw the dolphin show and had lunch. Next we visited the Oceans building and then the Deserts building. On our way out we went through the Forests area~lions and tigers and bears, OH my! LOL

Then we headed home and thanked Linda for a wonderful time. She said she had a great time too. Linda goes to our church and has a 14 year-old son. She loved hanging out with the girls and we loved hanging out with her!

(It wouldn't let me post more pics or change them??? Sorry, would have liked to post more).

Our Buddy

We now have a dog!

He adopted us. Well, we kind of rescued him from the neighbor kids who were trying to sell him to us for $150. They didn't own him and were NOT nice to him and even threw sticks at our cat who ran up the tree when the dog chased him.
Oh, by-the-way, his name is Buddy. The kids named him. We took Buddy to the vet today and he didn't have a microchip. The vet tech said he was probably around 7-8 months old.We had him vaccinated and blood and stool checks. All is okie dokie. He may have dysplasia in his hips. He seemed to be limping some when we first met him and he had a little trouble getting in and out of the van. The vet suggested we get him x-rays as he seemed "a little weird back there". I'm not sure I want the expense of doing that. I have a friend who is an animal advocate and she offered to pay for his vet visit. He will also be neutered and she volunteers at FACE where they do those kinds of things at a low rate.
Other than being a puppy who likes to chew on everything and jump up a lot, he is a very good dog. He barks very little and seems to love putting up the all the kids' attention. The vet tech said that he looked like he had some chow in him, but he's mostly mutt!
I'm not really a live-
with-dog person. We had a beagle before I divorced and it was not a pleasant experience for me. I wasn't raised with dogs, so I'm looking at this as an adventure. Micah was chanting, "We get to keep Buddy forever!" on our way home from the vet office. This plays so well into the kiddos dramatic play and the vet clinic they still have set up and play with in our Rec Room.
They are loving life right now!!!

Elizabeth's Brithday

Lizzy turned 9 on the 9th in '09. She thinks that is really neat. She is such a big girl in some ways, but so tiny in others. She actually grew out of size 6x now. One of her gifts is a gift certificate to go on a Shopping Spree with Nana and Papaw footing the bill! Awesome! Girly time! Mom (me) and the little boys gave her a backpack, ear rings, a book about feelings and An American Girl Movie. She was very pleased. The kiddos went to visit Auntie Laura and her girls with Nana and Papaw on Friday. Auntie Laura gave Lizzy her presents then. She got a hot pink storage cube and some hair clips. Papaw picked Lizzy up today and took her to get the "perfect" cake from the store. All-in-all I think it was a very good day. (Other than I had a migraine for 2 days~it's better now, though).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRLY! <3

The kids really seem to be enjoying school. Lizzy does get very tired, however. She doesn't like to wear her glasses, but we are working on it. It's so nice to have the kids able to work on their homework at the same time and in the same room. Micah and Lizzy need minimal help. Josh has become very creative and is now capable of completing all 25 of his spelling words each night. He is using a lot of descriptive words in his sentences. If the word were coach he would typically write something like: I like my soccer coach. But last week he wrote: My soccer coach told me to go down the court and score a goal! I am very impressed with his attitude towards his school work this year. I know his Autistic symptoms tell him not to settle down. If he gets too "wild" then we just set the timer for 15 minutes. He knows there will be an end and then he will have a break. When the timer goes off again he knows it's time to get back to work. I hope this attitude continues for the duration of the school year.
Micah and Lizzy both needed snuggle time tonight. They spent the evening with the
ir father (all 3 of them). The 2 typically need more "mommy time" when they return and I of course am happy to oblige. They each received about 10 minutes of snuggle time before they settled in for the night.
There really hasn't been much more exciting things happening in our life right now. I thought I would share just a "typical" day in our life.

Playing

I have noticed that the 3 kiddos have been playing very well together. They set up an Animal Shelter/Vet Clinic on Sunday afternoon and played for almost 2 hours. Whatever incidents there were THEY worked out on their own! They had all of their stuffed animals as "rescue animals". They were giving them "baths" in the play sink. They performed "surgery" and gave them food and water. It was so sweet to see them play like this. I'm not sure I ever have seen them play like this or for this long.
They played it again some last night, picking up where they left off the night before. They were very cooperative, even Josh had minimal meltdowns. A little later I popped a bag of popcorn and we sat on the couch and enjoyed a short movie before they went to bed. I hope this cooperativeness continues. Mom says "thumbs up" to playing without fighting!
(The picture says, "Animal Shelter a Place for Animals Open". The other side says, "Closed".)

School Daze

Over all the kiddos seem to like school. They don't like getting up early. With Daylight Savings Time it's hard for them to get to sleep before 10:00 or 11:00 and then I get them up at 7:30 to catch the bus.
Micah loves school. Micah loves his teacher. Micah is in the same class with his two best friends...again! Micah is in heaven. He is even sitting next to Joe Pee, his "bestest" friend!
Lizzy doesn't want to get up. Lizzy doesn't want to get on the bus. Lizzy doesn't want to go to school. But I'm sure she likes it. Lizzy was told by another friend over the summer that her teacher is mean this year and therefore has been expressing this. I think she has a preconceived notion and is not getting to know her teacher on her own merit. I think girly is gonna be a challenge for a while to get her to school. She typically loves it.
Josh is a dog every morning. I tell him that boys get dressed, get their backpacks, get on the bus and go to school~not dogs. His bus driver even told him this morning that he needed to "be a boy". At least we are on the same page. His meds usually kick in by the time he gets to school and it doesn't seem to be an issue at school. However, I did ask his teacher the other night how she felt he was adjusting and she said that he was kind of "glazed over". I'm sure it has to do with little sleep and getting back into the routine. He'll get it, I have confidence in him.
Pretty soon I will be back to work and we will have a new adjustment all over again. Hopefully with it mainly affecting me it will be a smooth transition.

Meet the Teacher Night

Tonight I met all three of the kiddos' teachers. I was very spoiled last year as I had already had previous experience with all of them the year before. Josh's teacher this year, Mrs. Dick, he had in second grade. Lizzy and Micah's teacher I never even heard of before. They all are nice ladies and seem to have a genuine heart for children.
Micah's teacher, Mrs. Sturges, is in for a treat as she has Joe, Seth and Micah in her class. These three have been in the same class since kindergarten~Joe is also a former student of mine and our neighbor. They are in second grade now. They also attend AWANA on Wed evenings Sept-May. They are great buds!
Lizzy seemed a little uneasy about her teacher before school started. She had heard from a friend that Mrs. Humphreys is "mean". I think she has a different opinion as the note that she wrote me and left on her desk stated that she thinks that she will "like third grade" and "Mrs. Humphreys is nice".
Mrs. Dick seems pleased to be working with Josh this time in fifth grade. I think it's good for him to have a familiar face. He asked for his crate for his books that he used last year in fourth grade. Mrs. Dick also noticed that he has been fidgety so they will get his cushion for him that he used last year as well. Mrs. Fath (resource teacher) seems to like working with Josh too. She has worked with Joseph during his time at Brookview. Josh was in Mrs. Dick's class when he was diagnosed with Autism, so she is full aware of who he is.
All in all I am excited for the kiddos to be starting the new school year, even if they have to grow up!
